Funding for the New England Center for Homeless Veterans

The New England Center for Homeless Veterans (NECHV) is supported by a diverse mix of funding streams, including federal (approximately 22% of total revenue) state (approximately 40% of total revenue) and city sources, as well as rental and other internal income. Approximately one-third of our annual funds are, however, derived from philanthropy and, given the reality of yearly decreases in government funding, today the NECHV depends more than ever on individual, corporate, foundation and community charitable giving.

Unrestricted Support: The NECHV Annual Fund

Unrestricted (or flexible) giving is one of the most precious resources available to the NECHV. An unrestricted gift – a contribution that is not directed toward a particular program or service – may be applied by the Center to areas of most immediate need, whether buying essential new kitchen equipment, hiring and training case workers, or covering the costs of repairs to our 100 year old building in downtown Boston. Gifts can be made in the form of cash, check, credit card, marketable securities, real estate and tangible property (cars, etc.). The Center will also accept “in-kind-gifts”, non-cash gifts that are of direct use to the shelter.

Giving through the Pentagon Society

The NECHV Annual Fund is comprised of donors who pledge their support to the Shelter by making annual, unrestricted gifts. Donors to the NECHV Annual Fund who give $250 or more in a calendar year are inducted into the Center’s Pentagon Society.

The New England Center for Homeless Veterans’ Pentagon Society is a leadership group of Shelter supporters whose annual gifts create a continuous stream of income which allows the Center to address its most critical priorities. Members of the Society are listed on our Wall of Honor in the Center’s main lobby, in our Annual Report (printed each fall), and are invited to attend an annual recognition event.

Restricted Giving

Each of our individual programs are also available for specific earmarked funding and we can provide expanded information on them. Restricted gifts each year benefit our capital requirements, school, medical clinic and selected individual projects. Given the current international position of our U.S. military men and women, the New England Center for Homeless Veterans is literally “in the moment” regarding the follow-up attention and care needed for so many of our veteran soldiers. For further information on making a restricted gift to the Center, please contact Karl See at 617-371-1729, or by e-mailing karl.see@nechv.org
