Renovation Progress at 17 Court Street

The first phase of the Permanent Supportive Housing and Recapitalization Project at NECHV is now complete, bringing the Center a step closer to the sustainable, state-of-the-art facility envisioned at the beginning of the project. Two men’s dormitories and the Safe Haven spaces have been finished, including completely redone restrooms, and all areas equipped with all-new furnishings. Safe Haven’s new separate entrance and individual bedrooms provide vulnerable residents the privacy and security they need as they transition through their recovery process and begin working towards independent living.

Veterans served at NECHV are moving into permanent housing faster than ever before as a result of the Center’s adoption of a Housing First model of care. The success of the Housing First model has changed the needs of the Veteran population at the Center, and the project will help staff address and meet those needs by providing additional permanent affordable apartments and increased space for supportive services, including a new Veterans Training School and Human Services areas. Both the new service model and the construction project allow NECHV to adapt to the changing needs of Veterans and provide targeted programs that will assist Veterans as they become enabled to live and thrive within the larger community.
